Introduction to Drawing
This is a six week in-person course. Whether you are a complete novice or someone looking to refine their drawing skills, this course offers an opportunity to dive into charcoal drawing and the fundamentals of visual art. We will focus on building a solid drawing foundation with charcoal, a versatile and expressive medium that lends itself to various drawing techniques. We will study shading and value, as well as composition and proportion.
Each class will be composed of a combination of teacher demonstrations and hands-on drawing time. Drawing from observation will equip you with the knowledge of proportion, and perspective while also nurturing your creativity. Throughout the course, you will engage in a wide array of drawing exercises, ranging from swift sketches to more time-intensive drawings that may span hours.

Intuitive Drawing
Intuitive Drawing is a 6 week long course that attracts a wide array of folks from those looking for a creative community to those seeking to improve their drawing skills. We work through exercises that break down barriers around what you expect to make and encourage you to invest in the process. We hold visual voice in balance with (and sometimes in preference to) craft. We always collaborate, we draw the figure (yes, nude), and we practice blind contour drawings. This is a great class for those who feel like artists but think they can’t draw.
Beginners are welcome and encouraged, experienced artists will come away with a new perspective, and both sides of the creative spectrum tend to learn from each other. We provide the materials, so you’ll just need to show up each week to create.

Drawing at Ulna Studio
Ulna Studio is dedicated to facilitating a safe space for creative exploration. What that means when it comes to drawing is a supportive community, positive feedback and instructors with a willingness to work with students wherever they are. We hold visual voice in balance with (and sometimes in preference to) craft.
We have several drawing specific classes that run several times a year. Intuitive Drawing offers students 6 weeks of experimental approaches to drawing, from blind contour portraits to figure drawing , from watercolor to collage. Deeper Drawing serves students who are looking for studio support and direction with their own practice, organized over the course of 6 weeks. Intro To Drawing teaches students the fundamentals of drawing through working with charcoal and still life. Aside from these classes we regularly offer additional workshops and one off class opportunities like Drawing From The Photography, Create Freely, and Control Freak.
We aim to dismantle some of the hierarchy present in the art world and create an accepting space to make mistakes, explore materials, meet friends and create art you feel happy with.
Drawing instructors include Lettie Jane Rennekamp, Cole Lyons, and guest instructors.
